Differential Response helps Shafter families through Healthy Start program
In Shafter and surrounding areas, the Differ ential Response program partners with Kern County Network For Children and the Department of Human Services to address early signs of trouble in families. ER social workers coordinate focused services, with Healthy Start providing strength based case management and housing assistance. A family faced severe housing issues after eviction, prompting hotel stays and food support while pursuing options. The effort included referrals to California Rural Legal Assistance and One Time Homeless Assistance, with the city aiding rental restitution. The father secured employment and new housing, and ongoing support remains in place for hygiene and emotional needs.
