In Shafter the Democratic race for the 30th Assembly District saw Nicole Parra defeat Crettel 9852 to 4715, while Republican Dean Gardner led Jerry Salazar 9400 to 4784. Second train accident hits same Poplar crossing again
A March 7 2002 collision at the Poplar and Central Valley Highway crossing left Miriam Castillo 28 Wasco with minor injuries after her southbound Mitsubishi Lancer failed to see flashing lights. Freight engineer Peter Page 54 Calva reported speeds near 55 mph as the Amtrak train struck the car’s right rear. Earlier in December seven laborers were killed at the same site when a vehicle was struck mid train.
