March 17 is the entry deadline for the Kern County Art Festival. Applications and blanks for Shafter area are at the Shafter Library and the High School art department. The festival is sponsored by the Kern County Recreation Department with civic groups and district volunteers.
International Order of Job's Daughters held a covered dish social followed by an initiation. Miss Marcia Craig was welcomed as a new member. Attending honored queens and guardians included Faye Barr Irvin Barr Mrs Lester Smith Verna Peters Linda Smith Lynn Jacobsen Deanna Toews and Al Wedel along with several parents.
Miss Sandra Steele and Bruce Epp united in marriage Sunday afternoon in a Southern Baptist church ceremony at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Sam Wilcoxon officiating before a hundred guests. The couple, both Shafter High School graduates, later left for a southland honeymoon as Coast Guard member Bruce Epp serves in San Diego.

Mrs Jack Stepp entertained her bridge club on a recent Monday evening with two tables in play. Prizes went to Mrs Harvey Neuman and Mrs Robert Mettler. After the game chicken salad coffee and tea were served to guests including Mrs Bertson Mrs Taffera Mr Grim Mr Neuman Mr Mettler Mr Fuller Jr and Marvin Neuman.
