More than 150 Kern county potato growers met at Rid ged grammar school auditorium to set action on grading and marketing. They drafted three lines of action including standards for U S No 1 and 2 grades and 103 pound sacks, and opposed a $5 per car inspector fee, with a Washington conference planned for March 15 and 16.

Contracts Set For New Richland Grammar School Award
R Hodgson and Sons of Porterville won the contract for the Richland grammar school with a base bid of 43 300. Direct bids for heating and plumbing will cut about 1300 from the total to roughly 42 000. Other bids ranged to 51 000. Construction to start midmonth and finish by September. A new four-room frame and stucco building will sit on Stone tract land south of Lerdo highway. A Colvin couple reports the birth of a son March 2 at Kern General Hospital.

Gas Absorption Plant To Be Built Here Immediately
Ground was broken in the Shafter oil field for a large gas absorption plant for Union Oil. The facility will rise south of the Shafter discovery well and be overseen by Fluor Construction's L. G. Bates. Heavy equipment arrives by rail Friday. the plant should be functional within about 60 days and can be expanded by adding units.

At a Dad's Night Court of Honor in Richland troops 41 marked advances. Twelve Cub Scouts earned badges, nine tenderfeet and one first class went to Scouts led by Willard Merrall. Loffland Brothers reached 9275 feet in Superior Oil's Wagner No 2 in Section 35 28 25 about a month after spudding. Unconfirmed reports place the bit below 10 000 feet as the California debut of the firm, part of Superior's four deep Shafter field projects.
