Shafter High honors U S troops at SOS Day to Remember
More than 4 000 people gathered at Shafter High School football field for the Support Our Soldiers event. The program featured Rio Bravo and Richland bands, a balloon release, and fireworks by Zambelli's. Local officials praised the troops as students waved yellow balloons and carried state flags.

Primary School Flies Two Flags For Troop Return
Richland Primary School honors U S troops with two new flags. The American flag flew over the Capitol in Washington and the state flag over Sacramento. Kathy Morgan secured the flags from Congressman Bill Thomas for presentation to the 900 plus students. Viet Nam veteran Esmond Carroll assisted as Eddie Perez and David Henley received the flags during a 15 minute ceremony on Feb 26. The principal announced the flags will fly daily with a yellow ribbon until the troops return home.
