Memorial to Stephen Foster on Pitt campus proposed
A lavish Foster Memorial to honor Stephen Collins Foster is planned on the University of Pittsburgh campus near the Cathedral of Learning. Funds raised by the Tuesday Musical Club and the university will house the Lilly Fosteriana collection and a 750 seat memorial auditorium with a Foster shrine and extensive manuscripts. The project reflects Foster’s enduring place in American song with works like Old Folks at Home and My Old Kentucky Home cited among the most treasured, while noting his poverty at death and enduring cultural influence.
