Lane Corner at Central Valley Hwy and Beech St Shafter by Marvin and Michael Lane. Red Wagon Cafe at 18800 Beech Street Wasco area by Betty Jane Merritt. Despite a second year of drought, much of California’s water recreation and fishing areas remain usable per the State Drought Information Center. Cotton Seminar Set for March 4 at Bakersfield Hall
The Kern County Farm Advisor's Office with USDA Cotton Research Station at Shafter and California Planting Cotton Seed Distributors sponsor a March 4 seminar at South Bakersfield Veterans Hall on Wilson Road from 9 to noon. Seven talks cover varieties testing seed treatments production factors pest management weed control irrigation and recreation water uses amid drought notes.

The Chitter Chatter Blue Birds of Shatter collected clothing and toys for a Bakersfield children’s shelter over two months. On February 10 the donations were given to the shelter with Clifford Stepp delivering in his pickup. The group then treated themselves to Baskin Robbins before returning to Shafter.
