Shafter Named Champion Community Second Time
Shafter has again been designated a Champion Community by the USDA Rural Development Round II, qualifying since 1994 and earning five more years of funding access. California State Director Celeste Cantu and Assemblyman Dean Florez spoke at the ceremony, praising the city’s unity in securing grants, water and sewer projects, and plans to pursue Enterprise Zone status and future development funding for the Shafter ITTC and Airport Industrial Area.
