Pacific Telephone manager warns rates could rise with competition
Pacific Telephone manager in Shafter Rod Middleworth warned that FCC backed competition may triple basic local rates. He said direct equipment connections and intercity private lines allow skimming profitable routes, leaving remaining customers to pay higher costs to sustain basic service. Congress could resolve policy with reform act of 1976.
