Shafter Celebrates Bicentennial Fourth at High School Stadium
Shafter marked Independence Day with a 200th birthday themed celebration drawing over 2,000 spectators. Mayor Bill Cummings tolled bells at St. Mark's Church as part of a morning program, followed by a community picnic, booster club barbecue, and an allstar Pee Wee baseball game. The main 45 minute program featured a national anthem singalong led by local residents, religious talks, and a large aerial fireworks display coordinated by the Shafter Fire Department.
