City donates property for youth center and approves salaries

Shafter City Council shows an agreement with Kern County Economic Development Opportunity Corporation to fund a $1.7 million youth center near Hudson Apartments across from Kirschenmann's Park on East Euclid Avenue. The city will donate land while KCEOC covers construction costs, with Resolution No. 1503 giving the city the right to terminate KCEOC’s stake for noncompliance or insolvency. The project budgeted at $1.3 million is over by $388,000, and $249,000 more may come from Lerdo School sale proceeds to keep the plan intact as a public recreation facility open to all.
