Farm Machinery Shortage May Develop In Year
California farmers may face a serious shortage of farm equipment next year despite current availability. A survey by Hi B Walker of the University of California warns that precautionary measures are needed to balance farm and industrial priorities for national defense. Shortages already appear in harvester units for flax and potatoes, plows, hay tools, disks, wheel and track tractors, especially larger sizes. Used equipment is scarce, so future demand must come from new machines. If 1943 demand rises, supply could tighten. farmers are urged to plan ahead to avoid disruption to defense needs. Professor Samuel C May, director of UC bureau of public administration, is among nine public administration collaborators appointed by the U S Department of Agriculture.
