Funeral services for prominent Shafter leader Rolf A. Jacobsen
Funeral services were held at Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church for Rolf Andrew Jacobsen 64 a longtime Shafter area farmer philanthropist and community leader. He died Wednesday in Bakersfield after surgery and was cremated with burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park. He was Shafter Citizen of the Year in 1965 and held memberships in Masonic bodies Al Malaikah Shrine Kern Shrine clubs Scottish Rite Rotary and church activities.

Six Injured in Collision Near Shafter Driver Cited
Six people were hospitalized after a two car crash on Santa Fe Way and Seventh Standard Road five miles south of Shafter. Leroy Kinzie Jones 23 of Lamont and Freddie Joe Jones 28 of Shafter drove separate cars. Leroy Jones was cited for possible right of way violation. The Leroy Jones car suffered total loss. Freddie Jones’s car was heavily damaged. Six occupants of the Leroy Jones car were treated at Kern General Hospital Bakersfield. Shirley Jones 34 suffered a fractured clavicle. a daughter Wilmith 15 had a fractured pelvis and arm. Ran elle Jones and Wayne Jones 12 had lesser injuries. Rodney Cecil 8 complained of back pains. Nearly completed plans for Shafter's Fourth of July celebration are announced by Don Zachary, general chairman. Bob Gilbert, Miss Shafter contest chairman, reports entries are pouring in and urges eligible Shafter girls to file early. Contestants must be single residents ages 16 to 25 and will appear in street dress.

Mrs Eva Fortenberry a Richland School cafeteria employee for 14 years has submitted her resignation. The Richland School Board accepted it with regret and praise for her service. She and husband Ray Fortenberry will remain in Shafter at 361 Munter while she eases into retirement and keeps busy.

Shafter Officials Approve 5 Percent Cost of Living Increase
Shafter municipal employees win a 5 percent cost of living raise for 1969-70 with expanded fringe benefits. A final decision on the overall salary schedule is set for June 30 after talks between the payroll committee, Kern County Employees Association, and city department heads. The council rejected a 7 1/2 percent proposal as excessive and will review a final plan at adjourned session.

Richland Elementary construction and remodeling were awarded to David M. Biggar Construction of Bakersfield after an adjourned meeting. The $266000 contract covers administration and music building work plus remodeling, with a $37700 bid for cooling system installation. Financing comes from a $288000 bond plus a $50000 supplementary bond.
