A large circle of friends attended services for Frank Downey Jr 23 who died from injuries after an automobile crash June 16 He was a volunteer firefighter and co owner of the Foods Town meat department and owner of a Santa Fe avenue lunch stand His mother died in a Ridge Route crash in January 1941 and his father plans to move back to Pendleton Oregon after settling business interests in Wasco.

Junior Ball League 70 Starts July 5

Service men dance planned for July in Shafter USO
Plans for a service men's dance to be held Thursday July 2 at the USO building in Shafter were completed at a special meeting of the Shafter Business and Professional Women's club held last Thursday night at the president Mrs William Rodgers. Invitations have been mailed to a group. The next regular meeting is set for Wednesday July 1 to finalize plans for an ice credit drive to raise funds for Shafter area peneins.
