Shafter AARP hears Dr Neufeld on family escape tale
Dr Herbert Neufeld principal of Shafter High told the June 15 AARP luncheon story of his family's 1920s Russia to China exodus. The family, pursued by Communists, crossed the Amur River, survived in China, then received aid from Shafter and Mennonites to reach California, where Neufeld was born. The tale concluded with a Hawaii themed gathering and a hula performance by Phyllis Salazar.
