Funeral Services Held Here For Brock Accident Victim
Charles Harkins Brock fatally injured in a Saturday automobile crash at Merced and Magnolia. Funeral at First Mennonite Church with Rev John Bartel. Survived by widow Zelma Brock two daughters Voncie Mildred and son Carlail of Shafter and son Jesse Brock of El Segundo. Also survived by brother Allen Brock and sisters Mrs Davie Goodson and Mrs Margaret Phone. Eugene Brock killed in Philippines fight. body returned for reburial. Brock was a Texas native who lived in Shafter and worked for Wal ter Nicols as a farm laborer.

Rosie Lee Garner aged 61 of Route 1 Box 347 Shafter died of natural causes at Kern General Hospital on June 16. Born August 17 1887 in Trenton Texas she moved to Shafter in 1943 leaving a widow C Garnie two daughters Mrs Hida Bell Willis and Mrs Sibal Martin four siblings and a host of relatives. Services were held at Shafter cemetery with the Rev E L Bradhrust officiating Flickinger Jarizen Mortuary in charge.

Cecil Hale of 18810 Beach Avenue Shafter reported to police last Friday he was robbed of 11 dollars while hitching a ride near the Coberly West Gin. Two Black men picked him up one brandished a pistol and demanded cash. Hale delayed reporting due to small loss and distance to town.

Shafterite Hurt on Birthday Traffic Mishap
Gwendolyn Gottfried aged twenty six sustained minor injuries in a birthday morning traffic mishap with Anne May Waters age 37 at Riverside and Poplar. The accident occurred at 8 a.m. Gottfried driving north on Poplar and Waters east on Riverside were involved. Waters was cited by the state patrol for failing to yield.

Inhalator Calls For Shafterites Over Weekend
The Shafter Fire department answered two resuscitation calls over the weekend. Aileen Spears aged 17 of Kay Bailey Camp Smith Corners received ten minutes on the inhalator for measles with broncho pneumonia and was placed in physician custody. Don Little Rem Bristow and C W Jump aided. the incident occurred Saturday at 6 30 p m. W L Louis aged 66 of 128 B Carson Way Minter Village received fifteen minutes on the inhalator Monday at 4 30 a m for a heart ailment and was later taken to Bakersfield hospital.

Modesto Man Critical After Mishap Near Shafter
Jack Ratiff 31 of Modesto was a passenger in a sedan driven by Ray Diamond 35 of Shafter. The vehicle ran a stop sign on Scaroni Street near Shafter and was struck by a truck driven by Homer Watson 29 of Shafter. Ratiff remained critical at Kern General Hospital. Diamond had minor injuries and Watson suffered major injuries and was taken to San Joaquin hospital. Diamond was cited for speeding and failure to stop at an intersection.

Thomas Arthur at 45 from Shafter was among four men who strolled away from Kern Industrial Farm in five days. Deputies sought him after recent drunk charge. Other escapees include Richard Chton of San Luis Obispo and Percy Phillips of Bakersfield.
