Kern County Teens Sought For California Teen Miss Pageant

Ten county finalists will compete in Fresno on August 18 for the California Teen Miss title and a 1000 dollar scholarship. Contestants must be 7th through 12th graders, residents of Kern County, U.S. citizens with strong leadership and personality. Each finalist receives a tiara sash and participates in local activities during a one year reign.

Fourth of July BBQ Fundraiser Near Shafter High

Swim team coaches Barbara Jensen and Rochelle Johnston lead fund raising by team members selling barbeque tickets for a tri-up barbecue from 5 to 8 p.m. near the Shafter High School cafeteria in front of the gym. Adults pay 5.50 and children 2.50. Tickets available from swim team members or at the holiday barbecue. Meals include tii-tip beans roll and salad with a choice of ice tea or milk.
