Central Avenue repair delayed again by state rules
The long delayed Central Avenue street project in Shafter faces another setback as Caltrans delays push the start by a year. Public Works Director John Guinn said the July 1 start was postponed to avoid clashing with back to school sales and to limit impact on merchants. The plan, from the Santa Fe crossings to Five Points, had gained state approval in January but state changes to ramp placements and cost concerns prompted the bid delay. Caltrans agreed to revised ramp standards with less slope, clearing the hurdle before bidding could proceed. The three and a half year project now awaits new start after approvals continue.
