Legislature weighs safe hepatitis B vaccination methods
California lawmakers consider safe and effective vaccination strategies for high risk groups including teens and healthcare workers. The CDC recommends vaccinating all newborns and children ages 11 to 12, as about 70 percent of new HBV cases occur in ages 15 to 39. The virus is highly infectious, with prevention achievable by inoculation in over 95 percent of transmissions, while many infected individuals show mild or no symptoms.
