Asian buyers demand high quality San Joaquin Valley cotton, noting its use in joint venture mills across Asia and beyond. The board also approved a 1997/98 Quality Cotton budget of 744,472, down over 6 percent to reduce a surplus in UC testing programs, with 15 researchers planting 2,797 acres of experimental cotton in 125 plots in 1997.
