Dicofol Resistance Testing In California Cotton Fields
U C Davis entomologists with Dellavalle Lab in Fresno run a 1986 field season rapid bioassay to detect dicofol resistance in spider mites across Fresno Kings and Kern counties. A 24 hour test uses dicofol treated dishes and 50 to 60 sampled leaves per field. If dicofol mortality drops below 80 percent, sprays will fail. The test can show if resistance caused field failures or if issues are due to application. Resistance is unstable and found in 10 to 30 percent of Sance valley locations. stopping use can drop resistance as susceptible mites rebalance fields. Pest control advisors are invited to join the program.
