Final Tribute City Honors Mary Lou Collins

Citizens from all walks of life in Shafter plan a morning memorial at Union Cemetery to honor Mary Lou Collins. Merchants will pay their tribute at 10 and 11 a.m. in a solemn local farewell.

Memorial services for Mrs Collins planned in Fresno

The memorials will be conducted by Rev Gordon Baker at Lisle Funeral Parlor in Fresno and burial will occur in Fresno Cemetery. A memorial fund is set up with a special committee from organizations she served. Mrs Collins died instantly in a two car crash near Hanford early Saturday. her husband Dr George Collins, 36, was injured and taken to Kings County General Hospital. He has since been moved to the veterans administration in Fresno for treatment.

Man Faces Manslaughter Charge In Fatal Collision

Mose Bizeiff a 28 year old Lemoore rancher will fight a felony manslaughter charge after a two car crash killed Mary Lou Collins a 33 year old Shafter civic leader. The charge carries one to ten years in prison and was filed in Hanford Justice Court by Kings County Deputy District Attorney John Monson. Bail set at 1500 pending preliminary hearing. case may go to Kings County Superior Court.

County Health Official Assigned to Kern North Region

Clifford Nagel, county sanitarium official based in Wasco, is serving the North Kern area including Buttonwillow Shafter and Delano as a temporary stopgap while a permanent district office is found. He oversees the Wasco office and will continue until a permanent arrangement is set.

Plums Shipped From Shafter to Los Angeles Market

Shipment of plums from the Shafter agricultural district was completed this week. Inspector Néd Smith reported the crop value and 17 percent of acres involved, with the produce destined for the Los Angeles market.
