Long-time Press employee turns 85 in Shafter
Virginia Brownell, longtime receptionist at The Sharv Press, turned 85 on May 21 at the office. Born in Riverside in 1912, she moved to Shafter in 1946 with her late husband, watching five decades of change. Her son Arthur and daughter-in-law Lois live in Yardley, Pennsylvania. She joked she will wave a cane at 90, and said work is her hobby. Brownell joined the local paper in 1973 and enjoys being with people, plus church and travel when possible.
