California Beet Growers Plan Annual Summer Meet
Arnold Frew of King City announced the California Beet Growers Association will hold its annual summer board meeting June 19 and 20 in Carmel. The agenda includes welfare topics for sugar beet farmers while 1952 crop data show 149,543 harvested acres, 17.64 tons per acre, and 16.08 percent sugar. 1953 plantings projected at 175,000 acres. Gordon Lyons expects 1952 payments per ton to exceed postwar highs, with total grower income around 40 million dollars and 1953 prospects brighter.

California Potato Marketing Order Debate Highlights Growth Plan
Arnold Kirschenmann leads a Kern County panel arguing for a marketing order to standardize maturity, packaging, and advertising for California potatoes. Max Wilkes says the plan reflects about 60 growers and aims to boost premium prices like Idaho. Edison issues raise hardship concerns and size adjustments. The proposal goes to a 1952 voting process requiring 51 percent of 65 percent of growers.
