Shafter District adopts budget plan amid income uncertainty
The district approves a budget framework in July with undistributed reserves for five thrusts pending clearer income. If state funds arise, five new positions may be funded, bus payments could resume, salaries and curriculum boosted, and employee medical coverage explored. The Shafter Chamber urged moving the May Festival to the weekend after Mothers Day to avoid conflict with local business. Committee chair Ben Grundy supports change if planning improves. A June 17 festival input meeting is planned. The board also approved an advertising contract with the city.
