Romona Ovas a Shatter Seventh-Day Adventist Church youth leader is chosen to represent her church as a delegate at the youth congress in San Francisco June 16 to 20. About 18 000 Adventist youths from North and South America are expected. she will be among 2000 official delegates with several unofficial attendees from the Shafter church.
Rio Bravo school hosted its annual picnic at Hart Memorial Park last Friday. Frank O'Neill supervised event setup guiding teachers through park tour playground time and the final picnic meal prepared by Eva Turney and Maxine Townsend. PTA mothers aided with children including Martha Swan Rose Skidmore and others.
A five year old boy named Jimmy Reece was seriously injured after dashing between two moving cars on Shafter Highway. He was taken to Kern General Hospital for treatment of deep head lacerations and facial bruises. The driver was Francis M. Fain, 25, of North Shafter. no citations were issued.
At a business meeting led by Kenny Ringsdorf the Fellowship group voted to move the monthly gathering from Friday to the fourth Wednesday at 7 30. George Parker Luecen Goodspeed and Harold Reed were appointed to paint the pews. Reverend Leland Whitaker introduced a film The Witch Doctor s Footsteps and spoke on Sunday services. The session at C C Jackson ranch drew 23 attendees and closed with Mrs Leota Adams s prayer.
Buttonwillow Union School student body council held its annual banquet Tuesday evening at the Bakersfield Inn. District Superintendent and Mrs. Lackey attended along with Mrs. Lawrence McClure of Richland School and Mrs. Ted Worden of Buttonwillow. Corsages were given to the women guests. Officers present included Darrelen Tracy vice president Mary Sue Hedrick secretary Marcia Worden treasurer Betty Sue Crum citizenship chairman Donna Lawson service chairman John Morales fire chief and Darlene Garrison cheerleader. The group is sponsored by Lawrence McClure, Buttonwillow School principal.
A neighborhood potluck patio supper was held Saturday evening hosted by Mr and Mrs James Jacobs at 266 Faber street. Attendees included James Maquist Bill Duerksen Tommy Tucker Harvey Neuman Robin Lori Louis Pelosi Curtie and others. Ella and Gladys Buhler who studied at Pacific Bible Institute Fresno visited over the weekend with their sister Mrs Vernon Isaac.
