Florez bill targets paycheck cashing fees by banks
Senator Florez sponsors Senate Bill 1904 to bar banks from charging fees to cash paychecks drawn on a business client account. California Labor Code requires employers to provide a fee-free paycheck cashing location, often the bank used for business, but banks have begun charging, risking labor code violations and civil penalties. The issue burdens low wage workers who lack accounts, and a full-time minimum wage earner may lose nearly a week of gross income yearly to cashing costs. Westly joins Florez in urging Californians should not pay to get paid.
