Tragic Plane Joy Ride Ends With Boy 4 Killed
A Sunday aerial joy ride ended in tragedy when four year old Sidney W. Harris of Shafter was struck by a moving propeller as he walked away from an airplane after landing at a ranch field. The boy, son of Mr and Mrs Thomas Harris, died at the scene. His sister Patsy Ann and brother-in-law Harold M Rohrbach were aboard. witnesses included Nora Rohrbach Arthur Frank Otto and Ed Hellbusch. Funeral services set for Friday at Armstrong Mortuary Chapel with burial in Shafter Cemetery. Surviving relatives also include four Harris brothers and another sister Nora Rohrbach.

Three youths Duane Ledbetter 18 W C Hale 19 and Leroy Rees 18 were nabbed after a failed break in at Midway Market North Shafter. They faced petty theft charges and were fined 100 dollars each with a 180 day suspended sentence for three years by Judge E K Grant Hale remained jailed for failing to pay the fine.

Mother Saves Home as Fire Hits Cherokee Strip House
A Cherokee Strip mother, awakened by barking dogs, saved her home and three children in a morning fire. Mrs. Harold Tolbert used a garden hose to control flames until firefighters arrived. Harold Tolbert Jr., 11, called the department. Damages were about 200 dollars with a 6500 dollar total property save. fault was faulty wiring.

About 200 North Shafter youths depart Saturday for Camp Gaines in the Lake Sequoia mountains for a seven day program of spiritual education and outdoor training. Northrup King and Co in Shafter plans a second year of activity expanding from alfalfa seed to sunflowers clover milo and grasses.
