Kern County budget proposal seeks 811 million for 1999 2000
County Administrative Officer Scott Jones presented a recommended 811 million dollar county budget for FY 1999 2000 to the Kern County Board of Supervisors. The plan increases spending by 43 million largely due to state and federal mandates in health and human services. It aims to keep services near last year’s level while discretionary revenue dips. Roads gets a one million dollar General Funds boost. Several programs offset gaps through state and federal funding, but uncertainties in discretionary funds loom. Public input hearings set for August 9 and budget hearings August 10–11 in Bakersfield.
