Richland Board Keeps Special Ed Aides Amid Funding Strain

The Richland School District Board voted to maintain full-time hours for five Special Education Instructional Aides and a six hour Proficiency Lab Aide, rejecting a superintendent’s plan to cut aide hours. The decision came after teachers and parents urged preservation of services, noting potential impacts on individualized instruction and student progress while the district faces funding gaps and incomplete state support. A viable trade-off considered was eliminating a bus route to save funds, though concerns about education quality persisted.
