Shafter Sets 75 Cent Tax Rate and 1950 51 Budget

City Council approves 75 cent base tax rate down from 90 cents, adopts a 102 221 operating budget for 1950 51, and expects to raise 25 000 from property owners plus 20 000 sales tax and other revenues. New construction boosts city evaluation by 110 000, with total assessed value at 2 764 765 excluding utilities. Police and streets receive the largest shares of the budget. Last year’s 90 cent rate brought 113 983 in total collections from property owners and utilities at 413 280 in one year.

Abbie Boese 37, a Shafter truck driver, drowned around 1 30 p m Sunday July 23 at Silicops Lake Oregon his body recovered Thursday morning. Surviving sister Mrs Dick Buller Route 7 Bakersfield and other relatives in Bakersfield and Rosedale. WWII veteran employed by Ernest Adamson Trucking Co. Flickinger and Janzen Funeral Home to handle arrangements.

Rio Bravo Center Plans Pot Luck

Rio Bravo Community will host a watermelon feed Friday night July 28 at 7. The pot luck menu features sandwiches and salad with the center supplying the watermelon. Mrs. W F Blatt enberg is supper hostess and Miss Irene Sade will lead entertainment after the seed spitting contest.
