Police report details a Sunday crash on Poplar near Burbank Ave injuring Robert Talbert who faced a $200 fine and 180 days suspended for two years after drunk and reckless driving. H. H. Smith faced $25 with 60 days suspended for one year for lumber theft at Minter Field. Richard V. Alvarez appeared in court for reckless driving and license violations with a $200 fine or 180 days, held in lieu of payment. Other names include Alex Estavilla Jim Kim Mel R. R. Burgett Dennis Powers and Jerold Gibson for various drunkenness or disturbances.

Eichman Benjamin 36 Dead Shafter Family Burial Planned

Benjamin Eichman 36 son of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Friesen of Shafter died at home July 22 after living in Fresno with wife Ella Elizabeth and two children Bennie Raymond 10 and Shirley Ann 6. A 10:00 AM service led by Elder B. A. Reile at Flickinger Janzen Mortuary precedes burial at Shafter cemetery. He was a burner by trade and member of Loyal Order of Eagles No. 93 Bakersfield. Survives include brothers Leonard in Fresno Abraham in Delano and Ed ward, plus sisters Alice Turpin Lydia Bender and Lilly Mae Friesen of Shafter.

The $16,000 warehouse is for Albert Movsesian, a Wasco grower and merchant, to serve his ventures including Western Furniture and farming operations. Two five-year-olds start fire destroying garage in Shafter

A fire at the home of Lewis Hall near the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Shafter started by five-year-old boys playing with matches burned a car garage to the ground and damaged a chicken house and a home wall. Fire units from Shafter Wasco County and the Shafter volunteer department fought the blaze at 9:47 a.m. No casualties reported.

New Pond Gin Ready For 48 Cotton Season

Manager Murphy White of Wasco says the Boswell Stone gin at Pond is almost ready for the 1948 49 cotton ginning season. Equipment installed includes five stands with Lummus gear and a Mitchell feeder. The gin, offices, cotton house and building are complete one mile south of Pond on the Central Valley Highway, opening in September.
