Shafter City Council Drops Plan for Permanent Skate Park
At a July meeting the council heard residents opposing a permanent skate park to be built near the new youth activity center off Highway 43. A temporary skating area will remain, while a Youth Council survey showed most skaters refuse safety gear and skate on public and private property. The council approved the Youth Council’s recommendation to not proceed with the permanent park, citing $400,000 cost and uncertain future use, with the temporary facility continuing with potential improvements.
