Westside Freeway: Longest New California Route Plan Unveiled
The Westside Freeway project spans Kern Kings and Fresno counties as 170 miles of new highway. Plans call for 66 miles in Fresno and 27 miles in Kern with seven more projects through 1971, totaling 315 miles when complete by 1972 including interchanges bridges and rights of way. Subsoil subsidence and aqueduct coordination with DWR and Bureau of Reclamation shape design. Safety parks rest areas and vista points planned along the route.
