Tops Market in Shafterchanged hands with July escrow closing
Steve Kang and Michael Lee completed escrow July 20 to take over Tops Market in Shafter. The store, serving Shafter for 33 years, plans to restore merchandise quality, introduce health and Hawaiian foods, and use a computer system for price competitiveness and inventory control. Kang, with degrees from the University of Alaska and West Coast University, will continue teaching at Moorpark College, while Lee brings restaurant experience and local staff stability. A August grand opening will formalize the new ownership.

Minter Field board approves hangar project progress
Minter Field Airport District trustees met Wednesday to discuss hangar construction and the hiring of a new manager. They approved payment for concrete foundations but withheld the check until three trustees inspect and certify completion. The project, awarded in mid March to PWS Construction of Bakersfield, faces minor delays and questions about taxiway width while crews aim to finish this week or by Friday. The district plans to hire a manager promptly but carefully, with possible interim arrangements if needed.
