Land Owners Challenge 160 Acre Limit Behind Isabella Dam
San Joaquin Valley landowners protest Bureau of Reclamation attempts to apply the 160 acre limitation to Kern River water behind Isabella Dam. North Kern Water Storage District President Glenn E. Stanfield says water behind the dam is not subject to Reclamation Law, citing flood-control purpose and established policy. Other districts Buena Vista Tulare Lake Basin and Hidalgoa join the dispute as Kern County irrigation users note 1,000 landowners rely on the river. Isabella Dam, completed 1954 at 21 million dollars, lies 40 miles northeast of Bakersfield.
