Brittany Fowler to compete in State Distinguished Young Woman pageant
Brittany Fowler emerged from a field of rivals to win the self expression and physical fitness phases of the Distinguished Young Woman program. She earned 1700 dollars in scholarship money and will travel to Bakersfield for the state competition with rehearsals July 20 through 24 at Harvey Auditorium.

Wasco Deputies Lead Prolific Probation Parole Sweep
In Wasco and surrounding Kern County areas a crime rise linked to AB 109 prompted a targeted operation Friday July 12 by Kern County Sheriff’s Office Wasco Station with Probation and CDC gang units. Twenty two residences were searched resulting in 14 arrests including Miguel Hinojosa 33 for resisting arrest and Jose Garnica 24 for felon in possession of ammunition.

Transportation educates Shafter youths at depot visit
Youths at the Shafter Youth Center learned about transportation across land sea air rail and space. Officer Robert Rodriguez of the California Highway Patrol spoke on seatbelt safety drinking and driving and driving without a license. They toured a patrol car and visited Shafter Depot Museum for safety lessons.
