The program includes a water ballet directed by Sormira Pearman and acts by Carl Beck and his All American People and Swimming Show with a trampoline and high diving.
Lawrence Taylor of Shafter was arrested early Sunday and booked at 2 45 a m on drunk driving charges. Resist arrest is under district attorney review after reserve officers followed Taylor who allegedly drove erratically to a Shaw street address. His brother and wife were present as officers say a scuffle occurred and a sap was used. Taylor remained in custody overnight and was to be tried July 17 at 10 am in Shafter Court.
The First Southern Baptist Church of Shafter at 250 Northern Street names a new pastor who is a graduate of Wayland Baptist College and other Baptist schools. The Ogans have five children, with three at home. A Sunday night incident led to Lawrence Taylor calling a doctor and the husband being admitted to Kern General Hospital with a concussion and possible neck injury. Police investigation followed.
At a State Street home, officers of the 2030 Club held a dinner and swimming gathering with members' wives in attendance. Walt Bergen was inducted as head of the club during the 6:30 p.m. event hosted by Ivan Meyer.
Shafter Fire Department resuscitation crew assisted at a doctor’s office Saturday in the case of Thomas Petrie who died of a heart attack.
