Mr Willard Janzen and family in Shafter learn of relatives deaths in Oklahoma floods. On June 22 a car stalled on Highway 66 near Hydro as six to nine inches of rain and high winds caused a sudden wall of water sweeping away seven occupants. Mr Harvey Friesen and others aided, with Friesen hospitalized then able to attend the mass funeral.
Vernon Pierce, a local jeweler, and Roux & Kuentzel, Bakersfield sporting goods, donate trophies to the winning team in each of the four Shafter softball leagues. Pierce will award to Girls Pee-Wee and Junior champions, Roux & Kuentzel to the top Men's team after second-half play and the playoffs.
Frank Hawkins of Shafter finds his parked 1940 Plymouth Club Coupe involved in a three car collision on the Shafter-Wasco road near Kimberlina after Mac Tolmason turns left and side swipes Montgomery in a Mercury club coupe. The incident ends with Hawkins deciding to stay home next time.
Bobby Holmes an 11 year old son of Mr and Mrs Robert Holmes of Shafter won the Shetland pony in Tehachapi 4th of July Rodeo drawing after buying two twenty five cent tickets. The Holmes family were in Tehachapi for the rodeo and barbecue and learned of the win Friday. He plans to keep the five and a half month old pony and ride it.
Taft Tonight and Tehachapi next week headline the fourth and fifth broadcasts in KERN Bakersfield Impressions Of Our Town. David S. Clark Tehachapi’s elder statesman and local figures Joseph Sola J A Schlotthauwer and Merrit Olsen share town lore while workers at Tehachapi cement plant are heard.
Roy Parker and Walter Emrick assistant farm advisors from Bakersfield completed attendance at the Livestock Judges Conference held at California Polytechnic College in San Luis Obispo from July 6 to 9.
The Shafter Chamber of Commerce passed a resolution urging the City Council to join in a unified clean up effort. They target tumbleweeds and untrimmed parkway trees, trash and dirt, and poorly marked signs. The group also plans a night crew to sweep streets and gutters.

In Pee-Wee upper division Central Market and Brown Bryant clash amid disputed calls, with standings open for a possible playoff if Brown Bryant wins the second half.
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Scott are the parents of a ten pound two ounce son born very early Monday morning July 12 at Friese's Maternity Home.

Mrs Acie Greer has moved to town after helping his wife move from Ridgeway Montana last week. Greer was a teacher in Montana until recently.
The new Richland Aquatic Center saw the season's largest turnout as over 500 residents enjoyed the pools on a sunny day. At 4:00 p.m. more than 400 were swimming or sunbathing, and the family hour 6 to 7 p.m. excludes children unless with parents to favor working adults after work.
The Mennonite Brethren Church observed Children’s Day with a Sunday night program by the Sun day SchoolPrimary and Intermediate departments and an all church outing at Jastro Park Bakersfield on July 5 featuring an outdoor service music and a message by the pastor under the theme Christ in the Open Air followed by a basket lunch and group recreation.
The Shafter 20-30 club upset Taft 20-30 by a 6 to 3 score in a Friday exhibition game. Harold Schnaidt pitched strongly for Shafter while Saale Sateen connected with a key hit for Pasay Richfield Oil of Taft.
Mickey Slivkoff was taken to the fire station and resuscitated at 12:01 Monday morning after convulsions at a Merced Avenue home. He was revived and reported in satisfactory condition.
Shafter police arrested four Pond area youths Tony Gonzales Jerro Luzon Guillermo Ortega and Arturo Ybarra Sunday night on a hit and run property damage case from Wasco. One man James Howard Stevens remains jailed on $250 bail for a separate counterfeit check arrest.
Shafter Kiwanis members along with wives and families will attend a picnic and swim Wednesday night starting at 6 p.m. at the Richlan Aquatic Center. Family hour will restrict children to accompanied by parents enabling Kiwanians to enjoy uninterrupted time with fellow members.
Rio Bravo leads the Junior loop as first half champions and remains undefeated in both halves. McFarland Girls' league has surged since the second half began, staying unbeaten. Central Market tops the Pee Wee loop in the first half and remains unbeaten in the current half.

Mr. Ed Schacht has been at summer school at USC and was in Shafter visiting family. After finishing his course in August the Schacht family plans a trip to Cleveland Ohio to visit relatives and friends.
Mr. W. L. Houston and his son Fred departed to Texas for a prolonged stay, traveling for a several week visit.
Mr and Mrs Bud Eller and their daughter Helen have returned from a week long stay at John Forest above Sequoia.
Mr and Mrs Ned Jenner were overnight visitors in Los Angeles last week visiting local households and sightseeing during their southern trip.
