Annual SMBC Wrestling Camp Opens for 1st6th Graders in Shafter
The 4th Annual SMBC Wrestling Camp runs August 6–10 at Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church Fellowship Center Gym for 1st through 6th graders with daily sessions 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. A Dessert and Exhibition Match Friday at 7:00 p.m. features CSUB head coach Mike Mendoza. Spectacular Fourth of July Fireworks in Shafter Draws Crowds
Shafter hosted residents from Shafter Wasco and surrounding areas for a county fireworks display along with a barbecue and kid friendly activities at the high school stadium and Manne Park. The finale stretched for nearly an hour marking the longest show in Shafter history amid strong crowd praise.

Puppy Rescued From Rubble After Fire at Body Shop
A stray puppy found under a vehicle in a burned down body shop by a cleaning crew was saved by emergency surgery after arriving dehydrated with an infected leg. Wasco PAWS stepped in to fundraise for his care, saving Domino from euthanasia and seeking a loving home.

Tigers Sweep Nationals With Multiple Tae Kwondo Titles
Wasco Martial Arts Center athletes traveled to Texas for the National Tae Kwondo Championships earning medals and several national titles. Pearl Chavez Jenna Rubio and Juan Perez won first place. Jackson Watson took second. Anthony Cantu Francisco Montoya Damian Jaime were three time national champions. Brian Solorio and Alex Solorio also claimed titles, with five consecutive national championships between them. They will compete in Fresno and Los Angeles in July.
