Fireworks light up Shafter Fourth of July celebration
Thousands gathered at Shafter High School for an Independence Day event presented by the Shafter Chamber of Commerce. Cheryl Toews sang the national anthem as lights dimmed and fireworks rose in the dusk. Families spread blankets for seating on the opened football field and sports complex. Activities included bounce houses, carnival games, tug of war, baseball, and face painting. Bands from Jesus Shack performed while Mayor Cathy Prout received a plaque from Jackie Sullivan of In God We Trust America for displaying the national motto in the council chain.
