The Shafter Pool repairs may wrap up with a Friday opening on July 12. Toni Johnston, a Shafter Recreation and Parks Board member, cautions that the expected morning installation must hold. if all goes well, the pool could open Friday afternoon.
Shafter announces July events including a revival at a local church July 14 to 29 with preaching by O Neal, community health clinics at 329 Central Valley Highway from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and a child health clinic on select Thursdays. Also features Youth Tackle Football practice, Vacation Bible School at 202 Golden West Avenue July 22–26, Veggie Tales theme, and a KCEOC Food Bank event at Shafter Veterans Hall July 22 at 9:30 a.m.
California Assembly member Florez was ousted as chair and member of the Joint Legislative Audit Committee after leaving Sacramento during a session. Reports say the move followed his opposition to a greenhouse gas bill and his role in probing Governor Davis’s no bid Oracle software contract. Four Davis aides resigned or were fired after the committee’s findings.
Richland Junior High and 18 other Kern County schools received $5,000 Governor's Reading Award honors for their participation in the Governor's Reading Program. More than 1.5 billion pages were read districtwide as part of a state effort totaling $4 million across 800 California schools. Schools must form a committee of students parents teachers and staff to decide fund use and report spending to the Office of Education. Richland officials credit collaboration among parents teachers and administrators for boosting student motivation and fostering daily recreational reading alongside classroom learning.

He serves as advisor to the School's Motor Sports Program and is trained in advanced crash analysis.
