The Shafter Chamber of Commerce will stage its annual Fourth of July fireworks at Shafter High School tonight with gates opening at 6:30 p.m. and fireworks at dark likely 8:45 to 9 p.m. Food booths offer Tri-Tip sandwiches, hot dogs, nachos, chips, and sodas.

Local Marine Returns After Seven Month Deployment
Lance Corporal Daniel Montecino of Wasco and classmates from Shafter High School recently completed seven months of deployment in Afghanistan, Thailand, Singapore, Australia, Baram, Gaza, Saudi Arabia, and Kenya. Now home on leave, the 20-year-old Marine says he loves the work and plans to stay, with Camp Pendleton as his permanent duty station near San Diego.
