Bicentennial artifacts on display at Shafter library

Nixon surrenders over theft charge in Shafter case
Richard D Nixon of Bakersfield was charged with stealing a television from George Porter in Shafter on April 14. He surrendered at the Shafter police station Monday, was jailed in Kern County, and a Bakersfield municipal court hearing will be scheduled. The TV set was recovered and returned to the owner.

California housing starts rise 26.5 percent in May
Bank of America reports May housing starts in California at a seasonally adjusted 124000 units, up from 98000 in April. Despite the gain from April, May 1975 starts are 215 percent below the 1974 rate of 158000 units.
