Ambitious Kern County Fair Horse Show Planned for Sept 28–Oct 2
Hollis B. Roberts and Frank Jordano announce the Kern County Fair Horse Show will run five days of the nine day Kern County Fair at the Howard K. Dickson Pavilion. The event features 139 races and 95 open-class events with 19285 in cash premiums, plus junior divisions with ribbons and trophies. A drug testing pilot program will be used, funded by a $1 entry fee per horse, under rules from the American Horse Show Association. Judges include Eddie Waggoner Michael Page and Duane C Pettibone with officials Pat McLeod Sherry Watson Ralph Walker Francis Manley Jr Malcolm Rossel Dennis Schardt and Dr Charles Burger.

The Shafter Press emerged from earlier papers dating back to 1921 and merged with the Progress, later becoming the Shafter Press.
