Two Boys Drown After Warning Ignored at Reservoir

Two five and four year old boys, Danny and Bobby Hughes, drowned after ignoring a babysitter Florinda Fowler's warning to stay away from an irrigation reservoir behind homes on Superior Land Company property near Merced Avenue. Rescue workers pulled the youths from the water, with one found near the surface and the other at the bottom. An ambulance rushed them to Kern General Hospital where they were pronounced dead on arrival.
