General Petroleum spudded the Sullivan No. 1 well in Section 12 29-25 about 1.5 miles south of Shafter’s southern boundary. Drilling reached 1590 feet Tuesday as the outpost of the Greeley field, with plans to complete Sullivan before Caldwell No. 5 in Shafter.

Improvements Made On New Belridge Road
Shafter business men report the New Belridge road between the oilfield and Shafter is largely in good condition. The route is oiled along most of its length except for three miles in the old river bottom where grading is underway. Bridges are generally sound, with one only allowing one way traffic. A side-road at the Belridge end links to the south camp and the Lerdo extension joins the field between the north and south camps. The road offers a shorter coastbound route from southern Kern. it connects with The Taft highway and meets the Paso Robles road at Blackwell’s corner with signs at cross roads on the Lerdo extension.

Potatoes Disease Meeting Set for Bakersfield

Irvin Althouse reported to the Shafter-Wasco Irrigation district board on water spreading from February through June 6 totaling 8 000 acre feet at about 0 5 acre foot per acre per day. Costs this year reached 6 400 with equal sharing by the district and Kern County Land Co. Last year 20 000 acre feet spread cost over 10 000 with half paid by the district. The Delano Alpaugh suit settlement proposal would allow 18 000 acre feet per year from Kern wells after location of a measuring station and equipment details are settled. The board favors the compromise.
