Budget Battles Cloud Kern High Into Next Year
Davis reports a freeze on hiring and discretionary spending for the year with travel limits. The legislature cannot draft a budget as Democrats and Republicans resist essential cuts or tax increases. The Governor’s compromise budget includes cuts and taxes, but lawmakers won’t consider it. The January proposal is under debate while education braces for more cuts. Kern High District advocates prudent prep for worst cases and will seek savings while maintaining services for students. Next month will cover testing plans and Shafter High’s March accreditation visit.
