Potato Legislation Not Price Support for Potatoes
Maupin of the Growers Association says Congress amended potato law only to let the Agriculture Secretary use Section 32 funds as he sees fit for buying potatoes for school programs markets new uses and livestock feed. He argues funds are insufficient to stabilize prices and the measure will have little effect on grower returns given large supplies in early 1954 and a repeat surplus similar to 1953.
