Constable Blake Witcher announced the arrest of three juveniles for a series of farm tool and gasoline thefts and a burglary at Smith's Market. Two youths aged 16 were captured near Shafter and Bakersfield. a 14 year old was taken at Corcoran, with the youngest still at large after escaping last Thursday night. Five Juveniles Escape Shafter Jail After Breakout
A 14 year old remains at large after a jail breakout at Shafter Police Jail involving five youths. One 16 year old was later retaken and two others were returned to custody the same night. The escape was aided by a sawblade smuggled in by an outside ally. Westside officers captured two runaways early Friday. Chief John Reily said the escape occurred after an outside worker left a gate open enabling access to the fenced area.

Guy Hall of Bakersfield won the contract to build three units at Shafter High School for 275 328 dollars. The Kern County Union High School District board awarded the low bid after opening bids Tuesday night. Hall will have 275 days to complete the 18110.7 square feet addition, designed by Wright Metcalf and Parsons with Schneider and Wikoff of Shafter as plumbing and heating subcontractor.
